None of the work that we, the Columbia Summer Winds, do would be possible without the support of the New York City community. Here are just a few of the organizations that have contributed to our success in the past few years.
OTHER BANDS IN NEW YORK CITY
Columbia University Wind Ensemble - The undergraduate wind band at Columbia from which the Columbia Summer Winds originally grew.
Manhattan Wind Ensemble - A start-up community band looking for passionate members. We started a partnership with them in 2008.
Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Corps - A community band based in New York City, this band of brothers and sisters has been making music and art for audiences across the United States and Canada since 1979. Several of our players also play in this group.
Grand Street Campus Community Band - A volunteer ensemble for people who love making great music.
COMMUNITY GROUPS
Friends of Morningside Park - They help keep the park beautiful, part of which involves inviting us to play there.
Old First Reformed Church - We played in their first July music series, and we hope to go back!
NYC Parks Department - Our source for booking outdoor concerts.
Teachers College Music Education Department - They help us a great deal by providing our rehearsal space.
